The MCAGC was able to negotiate a three (3) year Bricklayer’s Agreement without any loss of time. This contract should give us stability and promote Union Masonry. Numerous changes to the contract should strengthen not only this area as “Union” but our relationships with the Union as well..
One of changes which should help both sides is the formation of the Labor Management Cooperative Committee. This contract increased funding to the (LMCC), from the Trust: “the Trust will assist workers and employers in solving problems of mutual concern not susceptible to resolution with in the collective bargaining process to improve, the employment opportunities for the employees, to expand the market for the construction industry, to improve communication between labor and management, and to provide workers and Employers with opportunities to explore joint approaches to organization and effectiveness” There are many uses for this trust and the board has already created and filled three positions, Union Mason Contractors are already benefiting from this trust in a number of ways and we see it as such a positive step that the MCAGC is very excited about it’s future!
Promotion: We need to keep the drums beating and beating louder, it’s working. This is no accident; the efforts of the member Mason Contractors, (MCAGC), our loyal supporters in both the Brick Distributors of Illinois (BDI) and Illinois Concrete Products Association (ICPA) fund , the best masonry promotion program in the world: our own the Illinois Masonry Institute (ILMI). The ILMI has reached Architects, Builders, Developers and even politicians and proven we have the best building product there is – bar none! The IUBAC Bricklayers District Council and the MCA of Greater Chicago have cooperated on every level to make Union Masonry continue to be the method of choice in Chicago and Illinois. The joint effort with Union and management as never been more workable and beneficial to the industry.Contact your fellow Mason Contractors who have not joined our effort. Remind them that the MCAGC is their voice and that the MCAGC is the association of, by and for the Mason Contractor.
We wish you the best in 2007. Sincerely, Richard Lauber President
